ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 2 MARIE-CURIE PhD FELLOWSHIPS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE
The Laboratory for Internet Computing, Department of Computer Science, University of Cyprus announces the availability of 2 Marie-Curie Ph.D. Fellowship Positions for Early-stage researchers in Online Social Networking technologies, with a focus on:
- Modeling and Simulation of Overlay Infrastructures for DOSNs (code: iSocial-ESR10)
- Middleware for Decentralized Online Social Networking Application Deployment (code: iSocial-ESR11)
The positions are for up to three (3) years, starting in late 2012-early 2013. The positions are funded by the European Commission under the Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) program iSocial, which focuses on the design of distributed and scalable overlay networking and distributed storage infrastructures for open online social networks and for innovative social network applications that preserve end-user privacy and information ownership. The main objective of the iSocial Initial Training Network is to provide world class training for a next generation of researchers, computer scientists, and Web engineers, emphasizing on a strong combination of advanced understanding in both theoretical and experimental approaches, methodologies and tools that are required to develop Decentralized Online Social Networking platforms. The iSocial ITN is expected to start in 10/2012 and finish in 09/2016. The following institutions participate in the iSocial ITN: Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden (prof. S. Requirements, Eligibility Criteria and Funding: Successful candidates are expected to join the Ph.D. program of the Computer Science Department at the University of Cyprus, to conduct original research in collaboration with the principal investigators of iSocial, and to contribute actively to the activities planned of the project (scientific publications, taking courses, secondments, participation to meetings and events, preparation of educational material, coordination of work, etc.). We seek candidates with experience and research interests in one or more of the following topics: distributed systems (design, simulation and modeling), peer-to-peer and content distribution networks, middleware and software platforms, Eclipse and OSGi. Preference will be given to highly motivated candidates with strong programming and analytical skills, excellent knowledge of English, and a proven commitment to their studies. Eligible applicants are required to have a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in computer science or related field from reputable institutions, and less than 4 years of full-time research experience after obtaining their degree. At the time of recruitment by the University of Cyprus, the early-stage researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Cyprus for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date.
